Narayan Bali Puja is performed to appease Lord Narayan for the unnatural death of a human or for any Pitru Dosh found in the horoscope. This puja is to be performed in all cases of unnatural deaths, like death by animals, fire, curse, cholera, disease, suicide, snake bite etc.Narayan Bali is performed to fulfill and pacify the unsatisfied desires of dead souls who are trapped in our world because these desires stay with the soul even after death. To get rid of their pain they trouble their own descendants.
Narayan Bali Puja is similar to a funeral wherein an artificial body of wheat flour is used. By use of Mantras, souls that have desires remaining in this world are invoked. With the rituals, they are able to possess the body made using wheat flour and the funeral liberates them to the other world.
