As per Vedic scriptures, Gau Puja are considered very meritorious in Kali Yuga. The puja is performed to remember the importance of the cow. In Vedic scriptures, Gau or Cow are awarded with a very holy and special status which is of a mother and therefore they are called Gau-Mata. It is said that one who performs Gau Puja gets the blessings of Lord Krishna. It is believed that all the Hindu Gods live inside a Cow so worshipping them has a lot of importance.
At first a silver idol of Gau mata will be bought by the pujari. Than the idol will be worshipped with puja and flowers. There will be mantras chanted and at last aarti of the idol is done. Than the silver idol of Gau mata is donated to a temple in Rameshwaram.
