About Airavatesvara Temple
The Airavatesvara Temple is located in city of Kumbhakonam, Tamil nadu, India. The Temple is dedicated to mahadev. History. This temple was built by King Rajaraja Chola II. He ruled the Chola Empire between 1146 and 1172 CE. The capital established for his predecessors was Gangapuri, also known as Gangaikonda Cholapuram in some inscriptions, named after the sacred river Ganges and the goddess.
